Step 8: Resilience

Reviving Your Enthusiasm

You might be wondering, “Does going through these steps guarantee I won’t face any setbacks?”

Unfortunately, it does not.

Even if you put everything we’ve talked about so far into practice, you may still have bad days. It’s part of being human.

The truth is, real meaningful change is difficult. That’s why so many of us get stuck in ruts in our lives. It’s easier to live with what we know (even if we’re miserable) than it is to risk taking a chance and trying to accomplish our goals.

But that’s not your story anymore. You’ve done the work to get this far in The Success Cycle.

Don’t back down now! Not when you’re so close!

Instead, when things get really rough, try these strategies instead:

    1. Give yourself the same grace you would give anyone else.

Think of it this way, when a toddler tries walking for the first time and they stumble, we don’t say, “Great, now this kid’s never going to walk! I don’t even know why he tried in the first place!”

No! You pick them up and comfort them so they can try again.

We need to give ourselves this same kind of encouragement when we stumble along the way to achieving our goals.

    2. Lean on your accountability partner/support group.

We have to learn to be open and vulnerable with the people who believe in us and want to see us succeed.

For example, you might say, “Hey, I’m having a really tough time getting out of bed for my morning workout. Can you call me at 6 AM to make sure I’m awake?”

Who knows, they might just call you, or they may come join you at the gym!

There are numerous other ways to revive enthusiasm. It could be as simple as watching an inspiring video, posting notes around your home that stir something in you, or listening to a song that gets you fired up and ready to take on the world!

You could also create a vision board. This is as simple as cutting out images that represent aspects of your dream life, pasting them on poster board, and keeping them where you’ll see them often.

The key is to find out what these enthusiasm-boosters are for you, and keep them close in the good times, and even closer in the tough times!

    My Enthusiasm Boosters:

    1.                                                           .

    2.                                                           .

    3.                                                           .

Now that you know how to recover from setbacks, your success is all but guaranteed.

Lean into it, and let’s finish strong!
