Step 2: Reason
Finding Your Motivation
You’ve picked a goal you want to accomplish.
Now ask yourself, why must you achieve it?
Sure, dreaming about what you want is great, but now let’s take it a step further:
-
Why do you want to achieve that goal?
-
How would your life improve?
-
Who else would benefit from this change?
Somewhere within the answers to these questions lies your Reason. Your big Why.
You see, many times we set goals on a whim. We think about what we’d like and then go after it. But we don’t necessarily spend time thinking about our motivation… Our motive for action.
Have you ever seen a movie where the soldier carries around a picture of the girl who’s waiting for him back home? This anchor image keeps him going even through the toughest times…
What is your anchor image? What will your life look like when you achieve your goal?
Go ahead and take a mental picture. Then hold onto that image when things get tough.
Now we’re ready to start ramping up to the life of our dreams.
In fact, when you find a big enough reason, you become nearly unstoppable in your pursuit of your goal!
Go ahead and add your reason to your goal:
Real quick, take a second to make sure you’re not letting other people define your goal. Sometimes our friends, family and coworkers give us a list of things they think we should do (with the best of intentions), but these goals are far from our heart’s true desires.
Make sure the goal you’re chasing is truly yours, that it’s something you really want.
This is why we painted a picture of our desired future in Step 1. It helps us to know we’re staying on track!
Now we’re ready to start ramping up to the life of our dreams.
In fact, when you find a big enough reason, you become nearly unstoppable in your pursuit of your goal!
Go ahead and add your reason to your goal:
